Onstage Costume Transformations

  1. Crazy Marie > Fairy Godmother (0:00-0:14)

    • Quick cape removal and grab by offstage hand

  2. Cinderella peasant > white ballgown (0:14-0:28)

    • Pouch unfurls and top is pulled off, connected with velcro, and white dress falls over the remaining pieces of of the peasant dress. The white bodice is under the peasant bodice before it falls.

  3. Cinderella wearing a "Gabriel's" dress > banquet dress (0:28-0:41)

    • Pink dress attached to gold dress on the inside to create a bustle which falls when the pink dress is ripped off. The pink dress catches because of the attachment and is hidden underneath.

Miss Julie

October 2020 for Costume Design Course

August Strindberg

Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 1.26.29 PM.png

Miss Julie is the condemned bird, and Jean is her holder. Through his manipulation, he cages her in and makes her feel frantic and small. Miss Julie on the other hand, is fragile, frantic, and flighty. She is beautiful and adorned with accessories. Jean is dark, and has rough textures that highlight his true self. There should be a roundness to mimic the cage he puts Julie in. Julie should look bird-like and have feathers incorporated as well as red to represent the blood of the bird that is killed by Jean. Christine is the steady force and reminder of normalcy, so her costume should be opposite in color and texture to Jean and Christine. The thin lines of the cage should also be incorporated throughout.

Death of a Salesman

Arthur Miller

Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 12.34.44 AM.pn

The rip in Linda's stockings are a physical reminder to Willy of his past failures, as well as the brokenness in Laura due to them. They represent the fragility of their marriage, and even though Linda' perfect image in her family is ripped from her when dies, she is free of the burdens of financial and relational issues.

Linda combats the dark and moody color scheme in the beginning, as she is trying to bring up the spirits of the household. Whereas Willy fully encompasses the depressing nature.

Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 1.25.56 AM.png
Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 1.26.09 AM.png

In the last scene, Linda finally allows herself to feel the darkness of her past, while also embracing the freedom and open door ahead. Her costume in the final scene should reflect the darkness while also leaving her more open.
